Rain Garden Design

Have a rain garden design you need fabricated?  Viking Plastics specialises in the custom manufacture of rain gardens, wicking beds, planter boxes and liners.

Water Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD) is an approach to manage urban stormwater. Rain garden design is a part of WSUD. A rain garden is used to capture water from run off areas like roofs or driveways and holds the water until it soaks into the soil. Runoff from heavy storms bypass the garden through overflow pipes direct to the drainage system. The soil and plants work together to naturally filter the water and remove pollutants. Overall, the rain garden design biologically treats stormwater and slows its flow helping to prevent flooding in urban areas.

Viking recently fabricated a custom rain garden for HLC Projects, a company which prides itself on dealing with a high standard of workmanship with every project undertaken. Their project in Mason Street, South Yarra, Victoria, required a custom sized Viking Plastics rain garden at 5200mm Long x 500mm Wide x 1000mm High to fit into a specific long and narrow external space of a private residence. The rain garden was manufactured using Viking’s unique 50mm thick Paneltim polypropylene construction panels in the slate grey colour.

Water enters the rain garden through a downpipe at each end of the rain garden straight off the roof guttering. An overflow pipe prevents flooding.

Fabricated in Melbourne, Viking Plastics’ products are available for delivery Australia wide.
