Above Ground Settling Tank (Plaster Trap)

A settling tank, also known as a plaster trap, slows the flow of waste water to allow plaster, clay and other fine (heavier then water) material to sink to the bottom of the tank and cleaner water to flow out to the sewer. The collected waste will need to be cleaned from the tank periodically.

The 72 litre settling tank is often mounted on a dolly trolley for wheeling the tank to different locations.

What size settling tank will my business need?

In general, the capacity needs to be sufficient to retain the contaminated waste water for at least one hour before being discharged to sewer.

The most common size plaster trap is 72 litres for a single sink. However, the appropriate size, or capacity, tank will be nominated by your local water authority under your trade waste agreement. You will need to contact your local water authority so they can determine the capacity applicable to your application. To find you local water authority, click here.
